Re: King James 1
James VI of Scotland became James I of England on the death of Elizabeth I
of England, in 1603 "The Union of Crowns", when we became the United Kingdom
(which we are to this day). Our Queen now is Elizabeth II of England, but
technically Elizabeth I of Scotland. (James I of Scotland was captured by
the English and assasinted in 1437.) When Elizabeth was crowned in 1953, and
"EIIR" (= Elizabeth II) appeared on pillar boxes in Scotland, nationalists
protested and removed them. Numbers can be controversial, but I am not
aware of Monarch's of Scotland claiming the throne of France, rather the
reverse, at the time of Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth I's cousin.
Yours aye
Iain
