As I always say when this comes up, if you're flying out of Atlanta to
the northeast, look down.  You'll see Lake Sinclair, Georgia.

The engineer, commemorated in a plaque at the dam, was my relative,
who died 5 February 1970:

Newspaper obituary, Atlanta Constitution, 7 Feb 1970 p. 4-b

  ``Ben Sinclair Rites Today; Lake Named for Engineer.
  
  ``Toccoa, Ga. [ Services for Ben W. Sinclair, 80, who died Thursday
  night in a hospital, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrews
  Church, Darien, Ga.
  
  ``Mr. Sinclair for whom Lake Sinclair was named, was a retired Georgia
  Power Company engineering executive. He was superintendent of
  production before retiring in 1954 after 42 years.
  
  ``A Native of McIntosh County, Mr. Sinclair was a graduate of Georgia
  Institute of Technology. He joined the power company in 1912.
  
  ``He was superintendent of the company's North Georgia hydroelectric
  development of the Tallulah and Tugalo rivers, which were considered
  major engineering feats.
  
  ``A former resident of Atlanta, Mr. Sinclair had made his home on Lake
  Rabun, which he helped develop, since his retirement.
  
  ``Survivors include his widow, the former Ruth Moore.''

I only ever met him once, in company with my Aunt Jane.

He was the grandson of our immigrant ancestor, also named Benjamin
Waters Sinclair, born in Tongue Sutherlandshire, died in Thurso, Caithness,
Scotland, son of Alexander and Kitty.  Their epitaph:

                       Alexander Sinclair
                         Merchant Thurso
                     Who died 15th July 1852
                             Age 74
                               and
                        Catherine Waters
                            his wife
                   Who died 18th November 1850
                             Age 72
            Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord
               And in death are with Him in Glory
            They may rest from their labors and their
                      works do follow them


Some you know Aunt Jane.  If you're interested in where she is now,
please contact me.

Those of you who don't know her, I wouldn't be here now, nor would you,
if not for her.
