Sinclair Farm, Orkney

The stone farm house is the home where William the Elder lived before coming to what is now Manitoba. The stone walls are extremely thick, as one might imagine for the treeless Orkney Islands. My mother took this photo in the winter of 1973, and aside from the power line, nothing much has changed over the centuries. The land is in County Harray near Kirkwell. The inscription on the back reads "a poor farm but a happy one."
