The statue displays a great flowing moustache, the rest of his
face clean shaven.
The features are strong and regular and appeared to be
a slightly more aged version of the effigy
in the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Rouen.
This magnificent statue has the power to portray a force of personality.
The Normans say that it is not a dead man that was sculpted
but a living one already transfigured, in Male's words,
"the sublime work of God".
