Re: Starting to trace my Sinclair branch

Joe;
Thank you for adding to the discussion and knowledge base. Some dates might be helpful in appreciation of the social historical evolution of the Sinclairs as they migrated around the world. Mayland is unique among the American States as is Pennsylvania and Utah because of the religious dimention that history shows. The freedom of selection of a religious faith that Jefferson added at the end of the 1700's was revolutionary is a real sense. The world had not developed to that point of thinking and there were some that debated what the national religion of the United States should be in contrast  to the state religion of England.  You research also revealed another interesting aspect which is that there were so many religious influences at work over a short time span compeating for the hearts and minds of individuals but doing so in a peaceful manner. This was unheard of in Europe where more than one lost their heads for belonging to the wrong religious group. This is certainly true in Sinclair history in Scotland when the Catholic and Protestant forces were at work politically and in every other sense. What does seem remarkable aside from all else is that this E-Mail list may be unique in mentioning religion at all. There is something in the motto that has made a social impact on the family clan history that is rather remarkable. Happy researching. Neil-Argyll/PEI/Toronto

HELLO .

THE SPECULATION REGARDING THE RELIGIOUS FAITHS ON THE EASTERN SHORE OF
MARYLAND HAS PROVEN INTERESTING .

 MY SINCLAIR LINE RESEARCH IN PERSON AND FROM OTHER SOURCES HAS REVEALED A
LONG HISTORY IN THE CECIL COUNTY , MD. [NORTHERN EASTERN SHORE ] OF EPISCOPAL
- METHODIST - METHODIST EPISCOPAL -QUAKER -PRESBYTERIAN - CATHOLIC AND OTHERS
, OFTEN LOCATED ACROSS THE STREET FROM ONE ANOTHER !

BOTH PENNSYLVANIA  [ INCLUDING DELAWARE ] AND MARYLAND SEEMED TO BE FOR THE
MOST PART VERY TOLERANT OF MOST RELIGIOUS PRACTICES !  NOTE THAT THIS IN MANY
CASES DID NOT EXTEND TO MARRIAGES OUTSDE OF THE VARIOUS FAITHS , WHICH OFTEN
LED TO THE PERSON{S] BEING DROPPED FROM THEIR MEETING OR PARISHES. THIS
TOLERANCE EXTENDED TO THE COMMON USE OF OTHER FAITHS CEMETERIES !

MOST OF THESE CHURHES AND MEETINGS ORIGINATED  IN THE LATE 1600'S / EARLY
1700'S , SO IT IS NOT A RECENT DEVELOPEMENT !

HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE'S RESEARCH .
