Below is the compilation of emails regarding the various John, Joseph and Duncan Sinclairs. I'll continue to post pertinent emails every two weeks in hopes that we will be able to connect or fill in the blanks, unless this is objectionable to others.

1881 census) born in

Dunoon.
Also trying to locate info on Archibald Sinclair (born?) who married
Isobella Campbell (born?)
20 Dec 1821 in Inveraray. Used Scots Origin to order MC. They
had five children:
John b 13 Oct 1822 Inveraray d 22 Nov 1891 Dunoon

From Donald Whyte's book "A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation"(1867), he lists a whole family of seafaring Sinclairs
Capt. John, b. 1803, son of Thomas S., from Minn, Burra, Shetland Is.,
to Ontario 1841; stld Norfold Co.went later to MI, USA. Master of
a ship operating on the Great Lakes. Lighthouse-keeper at R Gratiot, 1867-78
Married Agnes Sinclair. children:
1.Thomas. 2. John, lighthouse-keeper, ThunderBay Is.; 3. Lawrence,
sailor; 4. James, went to Florida; 5. Capt. Daniel; 6. Capt. Alexander
R, b. 1844; 7 Cyrus H; 8.. Peter, drowned 1876; 9.
Elizabeth.
Although none of these Ontario Sinclairs are related to us, my husband
does remember older
relatives talking about "Captain Red Sinclair", who was probably Duncan
Sinclair, who was a seaman on the great lakes.

Have you ever come across any Ohio Sinclairs in your research or records?
I am desperately
searching for any trace of one Robert Sinclair of Ohio (b. mid-1800's,
d. ?) who married a Miss Ward (possibly JOHN Ward). They were my gg grandparents.
I haven't as yet been able to get
any farther back than them and I have very little information to go
on other than their names (and even with regards to my gg grandmother,
I only have a maiden name) and the fact that they had (at
least) two children. One was a daughter, but I have no name for her.
However, I have reason to
believe that she may have been in Colorado with her mother at some
point in the late 1920's. The
other, a son and my great-grandfather, John ("Jack")Ward Sinclair
I (b. 1891 in Ohio), served in WWI and went to Bannack, Montana to mine
gold. He died in 1928 after a mining accident. Have
you ever come across anything that may be linked to them?

You mentioned that your ancestors in New Zealand were involved with
the sea. I am trying to
trace one John Sinclair who apparently left South Africa in 1970 aboard
a ship bound for Australia. Maybehe changed direction along the way.
Do you have any contact with such a person who
may have been in the South African Navy during the late 1960's?
I would appreciate any information.

Subject: Finally an answer on John Sinclair in Union Co. SC
For those of you who have seen my postings on John Sinclair in SC, I
finally have an answer. I
may have mentioned that my grandfather told my mother that his g-grandfather
was found running
wild on Brown's Creek. The only part that was wrong, was that
it was Turkey creek not Browns
Creek. Here is the newspaper article that proves such:
THE NEW ERA Union co. SC Thursday, April 8, 1897
A STRANGE FAMILY
The Father was Captured Wild [Near Union] About five miles from Lockhart
Mills, in this county lives a family, Sinclair by name, with a remarkable
record. It comprises the father, mother,
and two daughters and they are prosperous, happy and contented, contracting
no debts, weaving
their own cloth they wear, doing all their own work, using neither
whiskey or tobacco, and raising
anything they consume except sugar and coffee, which is purchased from
the proceeds of
thesale of chickens and eggs. But the strangest part is
yet to come, Mr. Sinclair's father was
captured on Turkey Creek, four miles below Union Co., in the early
history of South Carolina, evidently being at the time 7 or 8 years of
age.He was as wild as any beast and lived on fish which he killed with
a stick. He was run down with hors es and captured, and of course
could not talk.
He was given the name of Sinclair and adoptedby kind hearted
people, who raised him. He
finally developed into a useful citizen, but always showed evidence
of his strange youth. His
history remained a blank, but probably back of it all if we but knew,
was some thrilling and
remarkable romance. His son, deferred to above, is
now in his 86 year, his wife being 79
[the son referred to is James Sinclair and his wifeSusan Powell]

I am sorry to say I do not know John Sinclairs parents, but I could give you his date of birth.
From Jenny:
There is a John Sinclair which I have been researching only to find
he isn't my descedant due to
an error of assumption in a book, he came from Orig, Caithness area.
He arrived in Lyttelton New
Zealand on board the Lancshire Witch in about 1863. He was a
carpenter by trade and there is
masses of history left behind in New Zealand on him. Do you happen
to know his parents? We had
some relatives go fromCaithness to NZ around then. John my relatives
came from Caithness around then are you able to tell me names and dates
of your relatives. I would be more than happy to do
some searching for you in New Zealand Archives.
OK, you are: John SinclairQuarterman son of David Sinclair Quarterman
Jr.son of David Sinclair
Quarterman Sr. son of Susan Evalyn Sinclair daughter of Benjamin Waters
Sinclair son of Alexander
Sinclair b. 1778 Tongue, Sutherland, Scotland d. 15 Jul 1852,
Thurso, Scotland
All of Alexander's descendants ended up in Scotland, Georgia, Ontario, or India, we're pretty sure. A NZ connection would likely be through one of the previous generations:
son of William Sinclair, b.1755, Scotland, d. after 1780, Scotland son
of John Sinclair, b.1728, Gloval, Scotland son of Alexander Sinclair, b.
c. 1700, Scotland. Some of their descendants are
known to have gone to New York, Michigan, and Australia. I don't
know of any direct connections to New Zealand, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Thanks, John Sinclair Quarterman

The Sinclair's and McIntyre's were in abundance in Glenorchy and there
is a few such marriages through the years. My ggg grandfather was
John Sinclair from Barbreck, Glenorchy and he
married Christina McIntyre of Dalmally, Glenorchy in 1855. John's
father was Alexander Sinclair a
shoemaker in Glenorchy. I happen to be looking at the 1841 census for
Glenorchy tomorrow morning if anybody needs something from it.

From Jerry Sinclair:
Duncan (or D.A.) was born circa 1799. If memory serves me
right, Duncan married a McIntyre.
That McIntyre might be from the same family as Isobel McIntyre. Duncan's
son, John, married a
Martha Hannon. This family migrated from North Carolina to Texas.
