Subject: Rosslyn Chapel Offer Up Another Surprise
Hello,
I am a new member of
the Sinclair Discussion list.
Unlike most members
of the Sinclair family, I have to go back 19 generations to Mary
Sinclair to make the connection, the daughter of
Prince Henry Sinclair.

There seems to be some confusion about the photograph of the bleeding angel
versus other angels that are not painted.
The photograph of the "bleeding" angel was taken in late February of this
year in the crypt of Rosslyn Chapel, not in the chapel proper where there
are no painted carvings. My recollection is that there are only two painted
carvings and both are in the crypt. One is of St Peter holding a key and
the other is the angel that is the subject of our current discussion. I
will stand correction, but I believe that there are at least two angels
holding the Sinclair shield in the chapel proper, one is above the west
entrance of the baptistery and the other is to the left of a window on the
north side of the chapel east of the entrance door.

In February of this year, I made my first visit to
Rosslyn Chapel.
Like most visitors I took several photographs of the chapel. Two of
the photographs I took were carvings in the sacristy that someone in
recent times painted. One was an angel that, when enlarged, revealed
blood-like stains which flowed from what appeared to be a wound to the
right side of the angel's forehead. If you are interested in seeing
this photograph, you are invited to proceed to the following address:

At this point in time, I cannot explain how these stains came about.
The wound that is implied by the flow of the blood-like stains closely
corresponds in location to that depicted in the carving of the
apprentice. The blood-like stains have gone un-noticed until now,
based on information I have received from people close to Rosslyn
Chapel.
I will keep you posted on the status of this discovery in the futures.

I was in Roslin Chaple the 1st. week of June this year, and also had taken a
picture of "the bleeding angle" in the vault. It appears to me that the stain
starts above her head, as her golden hair has the same marking. I must admit
I didn't see this during the time I was there, but only looked again at the
picture after reading all of the news on the discussion list. You must know
that I was in awe during my visit there. My mind was rereading Andrew
Sinclair's book
The Sword and the Grail
as well as remembering Niven's many stories told in the
Clan Sinclair U.S.A.
newsletter. It was like Christmas
day to a child. As Niven has said "That which is born in the bone can never
be driven out of the blood".
