We should give credit to the American Stuart Avery. He loved the place since he aquired it in 1977. He purchased it from Admiral Sir Edwyn Sinclair GCB KCB CB MVO the Commandant the Royal Naval College. Sir Edwyn's parents were largely for the substantial alterations to make the Castle a modern home in the 19th Century. Avery died in 1995 and the present owner, a Scot, purchased it in 1996.
